About Your Presenter:

Michelle is a writer, educator and counselor. She initially developed Sports Minded™ with athletes in mind. Being a marathoner, cyclist and triathlete for 13 years Michelle came to understand the importance of the mental aspect of sport. It was that love of sport alongside a passion for psychology and education that led her to pursue an MA in Sports Psychology. Having worked with people in Weight Watchers struggling with motivation, triathletes, marathoners, cyclists and competitive college athletes, Michelle continued to realize the strong presence and reality of mental challenges. Although Michelle's specialization was working with athletes Michelle is passionate about coaching exercisers. With a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Cleere is able to more fully work with a wider variety of people at a much deeper level. She uses techniques designed to train them on the mental aspects of their sport and exercise to enhance their performance, motivate and change behavior. 

Michelle developed the Winner’s Mind is the Winning Edge theory. What happens in sport and exercise is never isolated and giving clients the life skills to deal with their overall life is beneficial to establishing a Winner’s Mind in sport, exercise and life. Michelle is a USAT certified triathlon coach having coached triathletes in groups and individually for over 13 years. Michelle has trained at all levels of sport and exercise throughout the past 6 years as a certified NASM personal trainer. Research performed by the NASM-RI is presented at industry events and conferences, published in peer-reviewed journals, and utilized to develop education programs, application tools, and health, fitness, performance, and rehab solutions.

About Your Presenter:
Darin Padua is the NASM-RI Chairperson and an assistant professor in the Exercise and Sport Science Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he serves as Program Director of the accredited undergraduate athletic training education program. He is also the Assistant Director of the Sports Medicine Research Laboratory. He was the 2006 New Investigator Award, presented in honor of Freddie H. Fu, MD. This Award recognizes a researcher, “who has earned their first doctoral degree witthin the past 5 years and who has made, and is likely to continue to make, significant contributions to the body of knowledge in athletic training and health care of the physically active.” Dr. Padua received his B.S. in Exercise and Nutritional Science with Emphasis in Athletic Training from San Diego State University (1996), his M.A. in Sports Medicine from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1998), and his PhD in Sports Medicine from University of Virginia (2001).
